Rabbi Yaakov said, “This world is like a vestibule before the world-to-come; prepare yourself in the vestibule, that you may enter into the banquet hall.” (Pirke Avot 4:16)
Reward, one might say, is a matter of perspective. Honor and recognition: what do they really get you?
Do what is right every day. Do what you need to do to be the best version of yourself you can be.
The rest will take care of itself. This is where faith and fatalism meet and shake hands.
